En inglés, dentro del ámbito de la gramática, existen las conocidas “wh questions”, que cuentan con un verbo que hace de núcleo acompañado de un adverbio introductorio que tiene como primeras letras “wh”. Éstas se suelen utilizar en las preguntas abiertas, ya que no se pueden responder con un sí o un no, más bien tienen como objetivo solicitar mayor información.
Hay varios tipos de “wh” que muestran cuál es la dirección de la información que se desea obtener:
- What: Qué
- Which: Cuál, cuáles
- When: Cuándo
- Where: Dónde
- Who: Quién
- Why: Por qué
